KLANG: She is known as the “daughter” of
Klang MCA and “daughter-in-law” of Gombak MCA, hence having the best of two
divisions under her belt.
Meet Tee Hooi Ling, the Barisan Nasional
candidate for Pandamaran.
Her husband Freddie Leong is with the
Gombak division and heads a branch there.
“Our Gombak MCA chief Datuk Yip Kum
Fook calls me his division’s ‘daughter-in-law’ and sent out messages to his
contacts, requesting them to get more volunteers to help me with my campaign,”
said the 43-year-old mother of two boys, aged nine and 18 months.
Tee, a business graduate from West
Michigan University, said she had no problems juggling her roles as a
businesswoman, mother and now, politician.
“Since I run my own business, my working
hours are flexible,” said Tee, who owns and manages a beverage distribution
company with Leong, 55.
Tee’s foray into MCA and politics began
when she was 19 after her father, also an MCA member, asked her to help out at
the then Pandamaran assemblyman Datuk Teh Chang Ying’s service centre.
After leaving for her studies to the
United States and returning six years later, Tee became actively involved in
MCA again.
Currently, she is Klang MCA division Youth
chief and national Youth assistant secretary.
Tee said she had been assisting the people
of Pandamaran for the past few years and knew the issues there.
“They want a cleaner environment in the
village,” she said, adding that she was currently exploring new areas included
under the constituency.
She is also well-known among residents of
old folks and children’s homes for her regular visits and activities there.
Tee is contesting against DAP’s Leong Tuck
Chee and Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia’s Santokh Singh, who is contesting on a
PAS ticket.
